GUWAHATI - SHILLONG - CHERRAPUNJEE - KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK

Day 1:  Guwahati arrival overnight stay

Upon your arrival at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (GAU), you will be escorted to your hotel. Overnight rest and acclimatization.

If time permits, visit visit the famous Kamakhya Temple - one of the most powerful Shakti Peethas in the entire world. 

The Shakti Peethas are significant shrines and pilgrimage destinations in Shaktism, the goddess-focused Hindu tradition. There are 51 Shakti peethas by various accounts, of which 18 are named as Maha (major) in medieval Hindu texts.

Various legends explain how the Shakti Peetha came into existence. The most popular is based on the story of the death of the goddess Sati. Out of grief and sorrow, Shiva carried Sati's body, reminiscing about their moments as a couple, and roamed around the universe with it. Vishnu had cut her body into 51 body parts, using his Sudarshana Chakra, which fell on Earth to become sacred sites where all the people can pay homage to the Goddess. To complete this massively long task, Lord Shiva took the form of Bhairava. 

Most of these historic places of goddess worship are in India, but there are seven in Bangladesh, three in Pakistan, three in Nepal, and one each in Tibet and Sri Lanka. There were many legends in ancient and modern sources that document this evidence. A consensus view on the number and location of the precise sites where Sati's corpse fell is lacking, although certain sites are more well-regarded than others.

 After Kamakhya Temple, you will be escorted to Sankardev Kalakhetra, a cultural institution in Guwahati. It is named after them edieval poet-playwright and reformer Srimanta Sankardev. It includes a cultural museum, library and various facilities for preserving, demonstrating and performing cultural items, besides a children's park. In addition to being Northeast India's largest cultural congregation, the Kalakshetra is also a major tourist spot in Guwahati. Built in the 1990s, the artistic excellence of Assam and rest of the north-eastern region is displayed here. There are eateries, places of worship, emporiums and open-air theatres within the sprawling Kalakshetra premises. Also visit Bashistha Ashram, Nabagraha Temple, Zoo, Ropeway etc (subject to availability of time). Overnight stay at Guwahati.

Day 2:  Guwahati – Shillong

Complete your check out formalities at hotel and after that you will be directly transferred to Shillong, the popular hill station of north east (105 km from city / 3 hrs drive approx).

En-route visit Umiam (Barapani) Lake. 

 Shillong is a beautiful hill station and the capital of Meghalaya. Shillong is also popularly known as Scotland of the East. It is home to many waterfalls, parks, hills, and charming landforms. On arrival complete, your check-in formalities at the respective hotel and unwind. The rest of the day is at your own leisure. You can take a stroll in your hotel premises and enjoy the scenic setting. 

Day 3:   Shillong – Cherrapunjee

Early breakfast at hotel and after that excursion to Cherrapunji, the heaviest rainfall destination in the world. This town of Meghalaya is also known as Sohra.

Visit some of the famous tourist spots such as Nohkalikai waterfalls which is the tallest plunge waterfall in India and it is falling from a height of 1115 feet. Visit Pillar Rock which is surrounded by the lush greenery all around and it is one of the major tourist spots of Cherrapunji. This spot is famous for its striking shape of the rock that is in the form of an immense cone and bounded by two other smaller rocks in similar shape. Later, you will visit to explore the Mawsmai Cave and witness the natural beauty of Seven Sister Falls. Afternoon return back to Shillong. Stay overnight at the hotel in Shillong. 

Day 4:   Shillong – Mawllynnong – Dawki

Wake up early in the morning and enjoy your delicious breakfast at your hotel.

After that transfer to the cleanest village of Asia, i.e. Mawllynnong. After reaching this village you will observe the lush greenery all around and one can sense the aroma scattered everywhere in the fresh atmosphere. Explore Mawlynnong Village and learn more about the culture and lifestyle of local tribes. This village is a home of the Khasi tribe mainly. Enjoy the best warm hospitality offered by the people of the village to the guests.

Later, visit the stunning waterfalls. There are more things on the way to enjoy before going back to Shillong. Further, you will be driven to Dawki, which is about 20 kilometers south of Mawlynnong, at the border of India and Bangladesh and renowned for its suspension bridge which is commonly known as the Dawki Bridge and is built over the Umngot River. The bridge was constructed by the British in 1932. You can enjoy boating on the Umngot River. The most interesting fact about this river is that the water of Dawki is so clear that you will feel like you are boating on a crystal glass surface. It is one of the most striking natural landmarks in Meghalaya. After exploring the amazing towns continue your drive toShillong. On arrival at the hotel, relax. Stay overnight at the hotel. 

Day 5:   Shillong – Kaziranga National Park

 Today you will be transferred to Kaziranga National Park which is popularly known as "the home of one horned rhinoceros". Rest of the day & overnight at leisure.

Day 6:  Kaziranga National Park

Visit local spots, covering the National Orchid & Diversity Park.

Also visit local village and nearby tea garden to explore the ethnic culture of the villagers. Enjoy a JUngle Safari by Jeep and overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 7:   Kaziranga - Guwahati

Today you will be transferred to Guwahati.

Afternoon arrival and check in to hotel. In the evening get picked up for a Dinner Cruise at Brahmputra river. Back to hotel and overnight stay at the Guwahati hotel. 

Day 8:  Check out

Breakfast will be served at your hotel. After that check out and transfer to Guwahati Railway Station or  Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (GAU) for your onward journey.
